1. General Cancellation Terms
For Guests
We offer several types of cancellation policies to accommodate the varying needs of guests and hosts.
Each listing will clearly state the applicable cancellation policy.
Flexible Cancellation
- Free Cancellation: Guests can cancel up to 24 hours before check-in for a full refund, minus the non-refundable fees, mentioned on point 7.
- Late Cancellation: If a guest cancels less than 24 hours before check-in, the first night is non-refundable, but the remaining nights will be refunded.
Moderate Cancellation
- Free Cancellation: Guests can cancel up to 5 days before check-in for a full refund, minus the non-refundable fees, mentioned on point 7.
- Late Cancellation: If a guest cancels less than 5 days before check-in, they will receive a 50% refund for all nights, excluding the first night which is non-refundable.
Firm Cancellation
- Free Cancellation: Guests can cancel up to 30 days before check-in for a full refund, minus the non-refundable fees, mentioned on point 7.
- Partial Refund: If a guest cancels between 7 and 30 days before check-in, they will receive a 50% refund of the total booking amount.
- Late Cancellation: If a guest cancels less than 7 days before check-in, no refund will be given.
Strict Cancellation
- Free Cancellation: Guests can cancel up to 60 days before check-in for a full refund, minus the non-refundable fees, mentioned on point 7.
- Partial Refund: If a guest cancels between 30 and 60 days before check-in, they will receive a 50% refund of the total booking amount.
- Late Cancellation: If a guest cancels less than 30 days before check-in, no refund will be given.
Non-Refundable Cancellation
- No Refunds: Guests who book a non-refundable reservation will not be eligible for any refunds, regardless of the cancellation date. These bookings often come with a lower price due to the non-refundable nature.
For Hosts
- Hosts can set their own cancellation policies within the guidelines provided by Book In Portugal. However, they must honor any cancellation terms agreed upon at the time of booking.
- Hosts must provide at least 30 days notice if they need to cancel a reservation. If a host cancels within 30 days of the check-in date, they will be subject to penalties, including potential removal from the platform.
2. Exceptional Circumstances
In certain circumstances, such as natural disasters, pandemics, or other unforeseeable events, we may offer flexibility beyond the standard cancellation terms. In these cases, Book In Portugal will evaluate each situation individually to provide appropriate support and solutions for both guests and hosts.
3. Refunds
- Refunds will be processed within 14 business days of the cancellation request.
- All refunds will be issued to the original payment method used for the booking.
- Any service fees or additional charges incurred during the booking process are non-refundable unless otherwise specified.
4. Host Cancellations
- If a host cancels a reservation, guests will receive a full refund, including any service fees.
- Hosts who cancel reservations frequently may face penalties, including lower visibility on the platform and potential suspension or removal from Book In Portugal.
5. Changing a Reservation
- Guests can request changes to their reservation dates or details, subject to the host’s approval.
- Any changes made within 14 days of the check-in date may incur additional fees, depending on the host’s policies.
6. No-Show Policy
- If a guest does not show up for their reservation without prior notice, the host is entitled to keep the full payment.
- Hosts must wait at least 24 hours before reporting a no-show to ensure there are no misunderstandings or delays.
7. Non-Refundable Fees
- Service Fees: Service fees charged by Book In Portugal at the time of booking are non-refundable. This includes any platform service fees or booking fees.
- Cleaning Fees: Any cleaning fees charged by the host are generally non-refundable once the booking has started.
- Local Taxes: Guests are responsible for any local taxes associated with their stay. These taxes are non-refundable and must be paid even if the reservation is canceled.
8. Communication and Support
- Both guests and hosts are encouraged to communicate promptly in case of any issues or changes regarding their reservation.
- Book In Portugal provides customer support to assist with cancellations, refunds and any disputes that may arise.
9. Dispute Resolution
- In the event of a disagreement between a guest and a host regarding a cancellation or refund, Book In Portugal will mediate to reach a fair resolution.
- Both parties are required to provide all necessary documentation and evidence to support their claims.
10. Policy Changes
- Book In Portugal reserves the right to modify this cancellation policy at any time. Any changes will be communicated to users via email and updated on our website.
- Users are encouraged to review the cancellation policy regularly to stay informed of any updates.
